About Us

G D Harries & Sons is just that - a family business based in Narberth, Pembrokeshire. Established by Gerald Harries in 1977 and now run by his son Ian, who with vision, determination and heart, has forged the business we are today - a large scale operation fully employing high-calibre people, many of whom have grown with the company over the years.

Our values
We are committed to the local workforce and long-term sustainable employment: our workforce is committed to our continuing success. Now a big company in every sense, we have taken care to retain our family values. People, our customers and our staff and the trust between them, are at the heart of our operations, and the key factor in our success.

Our development
Originally a haulage business, we have evolved organically and our growth has been triggered by customer needs. Through wise capital investment, including the acquisition of our quarry in 2000, our tarmac plant in 2008, and expansion into other product and service areas, we have the capacity to undertake high value contract work across a wide range of sectors.

Our vision
Our name is highly regarded and we are respected for the quality of our product and service and we are proud of the fact that 90% of our business is from repeat clients. Our vision is to continue to retain our existing customers and to be the supplier of choice in the area. We understand that continued positive customer experience will determine this goal. We will strive to work towards continuous improvement and put in place appropriate processes and procedures to enhance customer experience so we continue to grow our reputation as a leading and respected provider in our areas of business.

Key milestones
1977 - GD Harries founded by Gerald Harries with just one lorry and then a JCB wheeled excavator.

1999 - business taken over by Ian Harries and has continued to grow steadily increasing the plant and workforce and diversifying into varied contract work.

2000 - purchase of Blaencilgoed Quarry near Narberth now enables the supply of much of the region's demand for quality aggregates for use in asphalt, concrete and other civil engineering projects.

2009
- on-site Coating Plant installed utilising limestone aggregates from quarry to produce asphalt and other bituminous materials for use in highway construction and maintenance.

2010 and the future - wise strategic investment to grow and improve the business continues. We are currently working towards ISO 14001.
