DAF and the Transport Association work together to support children’s hospice

Market leading truck maker DAF is working with the members of the Transport Association to support Helen & Douglas House, the world’s first children’s hospice when it was created in 1982. Located in Oxfordshire near DAF’s HQ in Thame, the hospice offers care for children and young adults with life shortening conditions as well as support for their families.

DAF is donating the use of a specially liveried 6x2 44 tonner DAF XF tractor with a Cartwright 13.6m curtain-sided semi trailer together with two further XF tractor units. Members of the TA can rent these at attractive weekly rates with 100% of their rental payments being donated to Helen & Douglas House.

The TA is made up of around 60 haulage companies, largely family-owned and run and operating a total of 4,000 vehicles.

“We believe this is a unique partnership which demonstrates the commitment of some of the most respected fleets in the road transport business as well as ourselves to putting something back into the communities which we all service and support”, said Ray Ashworth, DAF Trucks Managing Director.

Robert Wilcox representing the Transport Association said: “Without exception the members are extremely honoured to be working with DAF in what is and can only be described as a unique way in which to raise much needed funds for such a worthwhile and heart felt cause”.

Hugh Thompson, Head of Major Partnerships, Helen & Douglas House said: “Helen & Douglas House is very grateful to DAF Trucks for this opportunity to raise awareness of the charity, as well as the potential to raise a significant amount of money.  We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to provide specialist care and support for young people and their families, so this is incredibly valuable”.
