The DVSA has appointed DAF dealer A. Herring Ltd. in Chesterfield as its latest Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) bringing the total of DAF-accredited MOT testing stations to 50. With over 400 ATFs in total in the UK, DAF’s ATF network provides significantly more reach for operators than any other truck manufacturer, while also making up a sizeable proportion of its own 133 UK dealer locations.

A. Herring’s appointment, following hard on the heels of Lothian DAF (appointed at the end of January), is a notable milestone for DAF Trucks in the UK; DAF having spearheaded the drive for manufacturer-appointed ATFs when VOSA, as the agency was known previously, announced the closure of its test stations in 2010.

DAF can also report that the appointment of its 51st ATF is imminent.

Today, and based on the DVSA’s own ‘Preparer ID’ figures, the whole of DAF’s dealer network boasted a 95% MOT First-Time-Pass-Rate in 2014; showing a consistent trend on already very impressive figures of 94% in 2013 and 93% in 2012.

Further, DAF’s Dealers are the first complete franchised network to insist that all its technicians independently are accredited and certified to carry out vehicle Safety and Maintenance inspections.

DAF now has over 1,500 technicians independently accredited and certified under the IRTEC scheme. Undertaking this stringent assessment process has been a huge commitment and investment by the DAF Dealer Network.

DAF Dealers carry out quality audits on over 25% of all inspections in their workshops. DAFcheck, the company’s own electronic document management system for the completion, distribution and storage of vehicle inspection and servicing records, provides a list of randomised items for checking, thus ensuring an extremely robust process.

With the ever increasing focus on OCRS, DAF believes that DAFcheck coupled with IRTEC technician licensing, plus the quality check, gives every truck operator the best opportunity to protect their O-licence.

DAF’s ATF network capability offers truck operators significant operational benefits over any existing test facility arrangements; extended testing hours, greater flexibility on booking test ‘slots’ and reduced travelling time – all leading to a significant reduction in down-time and an increase in productivity.

“A DAF ATF offers more choice for operators,” said Greta Archer, DAF Franchise Manager, “they take MOT testing closer to the customer while reducing heavy vehicle journeys for tests and maintenance, thereby lowering costs to industry.”

“Flexibility is the key here,” she said, “allowing our ATFs to ‘book-in’ operators at their own convenience,” adding, “A. Herring Ltd. and Lothian DAF are just the latest in a DAF network which comprises modern, well-equipped testing facilities with fully-trained Technicians who understand the importance of keeping well-maintained trucks on our roads. DAF ATFs offer a true one-stop-shop for operators, while making the DAF service offering even more appealing – and we have plans for expanding our ATF network even further in the near future.”
