2,000th DAF CF assembled in Taiwan

The 2,000th locally assembled DAF CF85 truck has rolled off the production line at FASC—the Formosa Automobile Sales Corporation—in Taiwan. DAF has been active in Taiwan since 2006 and is the market leader amongst the European brands.
Within the fast growing Taiwanese truck market the interest in Western European trucks has also increased significantly. Forecasts for 2014 indicate that Taiwan will register over 2,500 trucks in the heavy-duty segment (over 50 tonne), compared to 800 vehicles in 2010. The Formosa Automobile Sales Corporation is responsible for the marketing and sale of DAF trucks in Taiwan, as well as the local assembly. "With more than 700 vehicles delivered in 2013 and a market share of 31.8% in the heavy-duty segment, DAF is the leading European truck brand in Taiwan", explains Seiko Chen, Chairman of FASC.
DAF supplies two and three-axle CF85 tractors and rigids to the Taiwanese market. "The CF combines low fuel consumption with high reliability and exceptional driver comfort. In Taiwan, the CF-series vehicles are primarily used in tank and container transport and in the construction sector", Seiko Chen continues. "For long-distance, heavy-duty transport applications, we are currently also investigating the possibilities to locally assemble the DAF XF105 as well".
LF distribution truck
In addition to the CF, FASC has also been assembling two versions of the popular LF distribution truck since 2013: the 12 ton LF45 and the 17 ton LF55. "We will register around 200 of these trucks in total this year", says Seiko Chen. "With its small turning circle, outstanding manoeuvrability and low kerb weight, the LF is perfect for urban distribution and regional transport applications in Taiwan".
SKD
Each week, FASC assembles an average of 15 CF trucks from "SKD" (semi-knocked-down) packages which are shipped from DAF Trucks in Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Leyland in the UK to Taipei. FASC assembly employees are trained by DAF which guarantees that the quality of a truck assembled in Taiwan is of the same high level as a vehicle manufactured in Eindhoven or Leyland.
