DAF XF 440 Awarded ETC Champion 2014

The European Truck Challenge (ETC) is one of the most influential trade press tests, which has been running since 2009. ETC is organised by two German publishing houses and the test results are syndicated to 16 trucking publications throughout Europe.

The ETC test aims to provide reliable information and advice to truck buyers before investing in new vehicles.

At the European Truck Challenge 2014, commercial vehicle manufacturers DAF, Daimler, Iveco, MAN and Scania took part in the important Euro 6 comparison test. The battle was between trucks for long-distance transport, with cabs not representing the flagship models, and with engine power from 400 to 440 hp and a maximum torque from 1,900 to 2.150 Nm. Along the ETC test route – which is approximately 142 km long and which features numerous demanding sections – driving characteristics, handling and comfort were assessed, as was vehicle efficiency in the form of an overall cost calculation.

Further tests measured Diesel and AdBlue consumption and performance. Other factors taken into consideration, whilst looking to determine the best transport solution in the market, included the lease rate of the respective manufacturer as well as contractual flat-rates for workshop repairs and other fixed costs – such as expenses for consumables and tyre replacement demand.

At the finishing line the DAF XF 440 was awarded champion in most title bouts and took home the most prestigious trophies for Cost Champion, Fuel Champion and Innovation Champion.

This is the second year in a row that DAF has taken the title of Cost Champion, the award everyone wants to win, thanks to a total cost of 64.0 EUR cent / km. The innovation award was won due to DAF’s impressive new GPS-controlled predictive cruise control (PCC). And after the careful measuring of Diesel and AdBlue consumption it was clear DAF should also take home the Fuel Champion award as well.
